Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor
Kamloops, BC
We have had Jill’s Catering food before and have always thought their catering menu selection was not only creative and diverse, but that their food itself was quite delicious. With that in mind, we ventured into the McGill road corridor to have lunch at Jill’s on McGill.
Our first impression of the small cafe was that everything was quite untidy with everything and anything stacked in the nooks and crannies of this rather small space. As for their menu, it had none of the diverse and innovative creations that I have been accustomed to expect from a Jill’s catered event. Instead, it contained the run of the mill breakfast items, burgers, soups and sandwiches.
After a brief glance over of the menu, iLove2Shop ordered their Monte Cristo sandwich with fries ($8.95), the kids shared a chicken strips and fries ($9,25) and I ordered their Thai Chicken Burger with fries ($8.95). iLove2Shop disliked the Monte Cristo and thought it was very soggy and passed it on to me. I didn’t mind the sogginess but it certainly lacked the sweet and savory flavors that I enjoy in a well-prepared Monte Cristo sandwich. The kids loved their breaded Chicken Strips even though it hardly looked appetizing. For my Thai Chicken Burger, Chicken Thigh filets were marinaded in their Thai marinade and grilled. I liked the flavor of the Chicken Burger but it was quite dry as it didn’t come with their chilli mayor sauce which I didn’t realize until I was done eating. I was also supposed to get onions along with the lettuce and tomato. Thumbs up to their home cut fries as they were quite tasty.
Based on our experience, we most likely would not return to Jill’s on McGill as their food was just average, nothing spectacular. However, we look forward to the next event that is catered by Jill’s Catering to take in more of their excellent catered food.
