Syros Pizza - Spaghetti & Steak House

Kamloops, BC

Delicious smells welcomed us from the moment we walked in, making us feel even more hungry.  Syros is a small restaurant located on the Northshore.  The ambiance is cozy and warm and the background music is distinctly …. wait, this doesn’t look like an Italian restaurant!!  I have to confess, I thought we were going to eat at an Italian restaurant but a quick glance at the menu with its distinctly blue print and an ancient Greek pillar on it, I realized that we were in a Greek restaurant.  Ah…. Greek food, I was very pleasantly surprised and pleased as I love Greek food.

Syros menu featured pizzas, pastas, specialty steaks, and of course, Greek dishes.  We ordered a Calamari appetizer to share and for dinner, our girls shared a Ham & Pepperoni Pizza, iLove2shop had Spaghetti and Meatballs and I asked for Pork Chops and Spaghetti.

The very lightly battered Calamari explodes with flavour in my mouth.  Very tender, perfectly seasoned and deep fried just right.  I would have loved some tentacles but iLive2Shop was ecstatic that there was none on the plate.

The Pizza contained a lot of cheese however it was very tasty as the cheese did not dominate the flavour of the pizza!!  I also found the crust to be a bit too doughy for my liking but who am I to complain as this pizza was for the kids and they seemed to have liked it.

I loved the flavours of the spaghetti that accompanied our meals.  They tasted so different from what I have eaten in the past, primarily in Italian restaurants.    I can still taste it hours after our meal (which is a good thing).  I tasted Oregano and some other spices and herbs that were relatively new to my palate.  I enlisted the help of some fans on my Facebook Page to help me decipher the flavours and they tell me that I was tasting traces of cinnamon, cloves, oregano, and possibly nutmeg in the spaghetti sauce.  Whatever is in there, it totally tasted very yummy and I find myself wanting more of it.  My only complaint is that the spaghetti was quite salty and the pork chops were a tad bit over cooked and dry making it tough.

Overall, we had a wonderful meal and my kids are already talking about returning for another visit.  I would like to try their Barbeque Ribs, Greek Pizza and Veal Parmesan.   We shall return, sooner than later!!!
