Kwan’s Chinese Restaurant

Kamloops, BC

We have driven past Kwan’s Chinese Restaurant so many times before and have never bothered to stop and check them out until today.  I gave my family the thumbs up and asked them to come into the restaurant after I went in alone for a quick glance over of their buffet offerings.

There were the usual buffet dishes but these dishes got preference over all other things:

  • Kung Pao Chicken - with lots of different types of vegetables, stir-fried instead of deep-fried (I can’t believe some Kamloops restaurants deep fry their Kung Pao Chicken), taste was actually divine.
  • Honey Sesame BBQ Chicken - done peking duck style, tasty and moist.
  • Green Beans with Minced Meat in Black Bean Sauce - lightly fried until the skin just begins to pucker with a crunchy texture.
  • Pork Shumai - these had to be home made as they were very delicious.
  • Jiaozi - Pan fried dumplings.  The filling was juicy and tasteful and the skin was soft and thin.  I would have been happy just eating this alone (and perhaps the bbq chicken too) for lunch.
  • Fried Chicken Pieces - perfectly fried moist chicken and very flavorful.

This place is one of the best Chinese lunch buffets that I have tried in Kamloops so far.  Excellent buffet. Great variety and great taste. Everything was hot and fresh.  Friendly staff that kept the buffet full.  The price is right at $8.99 per adult and our kids ate for practically free.  It is cheaper to eat at Kwan’s than to eat at Wendy’s.  You can’t beat that.
